As a top destination on the Xbox, Customer Profiles are an important part of our community experience. We believe our fans should be able to express themselves and have added profile themes as another way to do that.
I worked with creative directors and other designers to produce these assets. Then I worked with engineers to make sure they met color contrast ratios as these themes would be behind existing UI across Console and PC.
15,000+ gamers celebrated with us by sporting these two new themes with the Xbox Series X theme being one of the most popular themes we’ve ever released.
We’ve designed the Pride 2021 profile theme to give visibility to communities that have often been overlooked or neglected. It combines the flags of various LGBTQIA+ communities in a woven energetic way, creating a sense of unity.
The console themes were designed to frame and highlight both the consoles as well as the gamer who is sporting them. The Series X theme achieves this through its sharp lines and edges, while the Series S achieves this by using the console heat vents as the focal point.
One of the challenges of bringing these themes to the Xbox PC App is that the people still need to be able to read the text that is on top of the theme. To address this issue I have added a darkening gradient that not only makes text readable but also nicely introduces the theme from halfway down the screen.
